Brad Durbin and Antonio Bello were colleagues and friends who wanted to develop an alternative to clumsy and ineffective business card readers such as CardMunch and ABBYY; the team has grown dramatically since its beginning with nearly 15 employees and one ever smiling mascot named Güber. The original system the duo built was not based on business card scanning at all, however, instead it was a bespoke mobile app, called 'AppPack' with custom software and an in-house server. "We built the prototype and then the reactions from early testers came up like, 'Yeah, the content is not there. You have your own business card reader, but we don't like it because we use LinkedIn', and the app lacked the social awareness and syndication", explained Durbin. "But we were a small start-up; we can't build huge networks to compete with existing networks." So we were working with advisors at the time, and that's when we started using a new business card model that involved live updates on mobile and including even more information. "We thought this model could probably do everything we wanted to do in our vision -- we just have to make the software fit better on mobile. So we started playing with all the elements of business cards, meetings and events, and in-person and online interactions, and then after a couple months we realized that this was the right business model for us -- what we want to supply today is a membership service for people who want to use AppPack for professional marketing and education reasons." The result is an affordable inbound mobile marketing tool and outbound information delivery system that every professional, company and educational institution can use without any technical experience. Who are we? Both Antonio and Brad have been working in software and development as part of our day jobs, for pretty much ever since we can remember. We met while working on a project in 2006. In our past several years, we knew the software development market for corporations was becoming bleak. Downsized budgets meant software development would also take a huge downturn. So after putting much time and effort into finding employers who want (and appreciate) software we ended resolving on the fact up to go out on our own. Many people have the dream to do it, but we decided that with our skills and experience, being self-employed made the most sense for us. Not only could we identify problem, we could analyze them, design resolutions, build them, implement them, and train on them. Between the two of us, we are a start to finish solution. While our passion is to dream up and make software, we also hope to inspire other young (and not-so-young) people to follow their dreams. We formed a company called 'ubersimple', and we decided to make it more welcoming to all, and in doing so we are open to letting others join our team and work on projects to gain experience, get a taste of self employment, and to share in the victory of the challenges we conquer. His combination of programming, business and sales give him an edge to work with the entire team on their level. After meeting him, you soon find that his mind never shuts off. With a mind like a sponge, he gets ideas from everywhere and you will find Brad sketching new ideas on anything he can write on... Brad's "No is never an option" approach, he challenges himself and the people around him to always think "How can it be done?". He's a strong supporter of the "do-it-yourself" and "self-learning" concepts, as well as the "knowledge is power" maxim. This is the reason why he likes to learn as many languages and technologies as possible - each problem is somehow unique and must be solved using the proper tools. His digital marketing experience, both inbound and outbound, is what is helping us forge ahead. Bob has over 10 years marketing experience, plus several years of sales, management, and technical design experience. He also has quad-lingual skills in English, French, Spanish, and German. Sheldon also handles our international relations as we are currently working with representatives in over 13 countries! He is the most charitable person among us, and gives until it hurts. He brings an delicate balance to our sales division that helps us stay well respected with our clients. Managing our west coast USA sales team keeps Ken busy, and even still, he never stops, as he continues to work with a non-profit financial company that helps others to overcome financial difficulty. He has worked with small, medium and large businesses to train, motivate, and assist sales persons. Jay, though he says little, is a great communicator.
